INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS (2009)

Country: USA | Germany
Language: English | German | French | Italian
Director: Quentin Tarantino

It is the first film I saw twice in a movie theater on two consecutive days. Tarantino surprises me (I am not a fan of all his films!).

The film has everything that a good film has: good direction, flawless performances, great cinematography, perfect dialogs and a surprise ending.

Tarantino has done what every great director does, he keeps his viewers off their seats all along the movie. He shows an altered history and that if you are not willing to read a history book instead of watching a movie does not offend a lot. And he gives his fans an unexpected ending. I would forgive Tarantino for rewriting history although if only he wouldn't have killed the key figures (you know whom I am talking about) the film would have gone well with the history too. There exist many figures in history who are never known but who make it possible to write history in a certain way.

Brad Pitt gave a very good performance with his talented imitation of the Southern US accent and Melanie Laurent, Diane Krüger and Til Schweiger are all great in their performances.

Christoph Waltz is one of the most talented persons I have seen on screen. His capability of speaking so many languages so well is amazing. He is so sophisticated and at the same time so evil as Col. Hans Landa that he reminds me of Dr. Hannibal Lecter at times.

Tartantino, "this may as well be your masterpiece!"

  1. It was a great movie, but I was unsatisfied, insofar as this was not as gripping as his other movies can be. I was actually bored at points, as I felt he was overdoing the dialogues. Too long-winded.
Definitely not his masterpiece, I am still undecided between Pulp Fiction and Kill Bill 1 for that honour.
But nothing compares with Christopher Waltz, he was better than the director, other actors and the whole film combined. You are very right in comparing him with Lector.

  2. "Inglorious Bastards" like anyother movie that lacks a certain professionalism failed to inspire me.I mean just look at the way they bring down the threatre, it was funny. It was so make believe. The second half took away the suspense and the movie became predictable. The part where the German officer talks with Brad Pitt in Italian and Brad(who had been introduced as an italian) speaks broken italian in an american accent, is so funny , especially when the Nazi officer fails to see through it immediately. It was like the director was mocking the intelligence of the viewer.A good time pass overall.:-)

  3. I think the "Italian Part" was my favourite as I see that it is an intended comedy scene and Col. Landa sees through it clearly as he, in the following scene, says that Aldo Raine is one in the white jacket. If you have seen other works of Tarantino, you know that his films have indirect dark comedy sequences all along; Pulp Fiction and Kill Bill all fit in this category. One of my favourite dialogs is "Arrivederci" uttered by Pitt which is blatantly comic where he gives himself away.
